Marko annoyed by Perez and Verstappen fight: 'Unnecessary'

It has been a while since Sergio Perez could be mentioned in the same sentence as Max Verstappen when it came to an equal fight on track. At the start of the sprint race in Austria, the Red Bull Racing drivers went hard against hard. According to Helmut Marko, it was unnecessary.

So says the Austrian team advisor to ORF. Verstappen is on course during his team's home race to collect the maximum 34 points of the weekend. As there is also a sprint race this weekend, the drivers are not only competing for the 25 points of victory and the one point for the fastest race lap, but also for the eight points gained for winning the sprint race.

Marko wants a word with Perez

At least Perez fought for it. From starting spot two, the Mexican immediately sought out his teammate. The result was a battle between the two drivers that lasted until turn five. It ended just right for both drivers. Over the board radio the two were furious with each other, but afterwards they came out of it together.

But if it is up to Marko, it is not done yet. The team advisor still needs to have a chat with the drivers. Although, Marko is not talking about either driver. "Everything after turn one was unnecessary. We have to look at it again and we have to talk to Checo. Maybe he really didn't see Max. After that it was also over in the end, because Max just drove away from him," Marko concluded.
