For the first time since 1999, two Britons finished on the podium at Silverstone. These were Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton. From the safety car restart, the two Brits fought for second place behind Max Verstappen. In the end, Norris won the fight, Hamilton was well pleased with the duel with his compatriot.

Both drivers made their pit stops just as the safety car came out. McLaren provided Norris with a fresh set of hard tyres, while Hamilton continued on used soft tyres. Despite the McLaren driver not being very happy with his team's tyre choice, Norris did manage to keep his second place.

Hamilton trusts Norris in battle

A couple of times the two Brits went wheel-to-wheel with each other in a fight for second position. Fortunately for the home crowd, this did not end in tears. "Once again, he is very talented, naturally, as you can see. And I think it's great when you can have close battles like that and rely on the driver that you're competing with to be fair and harsh, hard but fair," said the seven-time world champion after the race.

"So there was never an element or a moment where we thought we were going to come together or anything like that. And that's what motor racing is all about. So yeah, as he wanted to hold on to second, I wanted to get that second, but it wasn't meant to be today. So we just get our heads down and keep pushing and hopefully we'll all have some more battles moving forward."
