Sergio Perez will start his home Grand Prix in Mexico with a special helmet. The Red Bull Racing driver has had a helmet design designed by a fan.
Thousands of designs were sent in after Checo gave his fans the chance to have their say on his new helmet. The 33-year-old driver is racing in his own country and wants to make it a special moment. Out of the thousand designs submitted, Perez finally chose the design by 22-year-old Mexican Karla Lozano.
"When I saw Karla’s design, I knew I had to have it on my helmet for Mexico. It is great that the Team can connect with fans in the way we do here and give them opportunities like this. It was tricky making the decision because the entries were so strong and interesting. Perez let it be noted. Karla’s art was the one that brought it all together for me and showed Mexico in such a perfect way, there are so many little details and the colours are amazing. I always have México en la Cabeza but this week I will be proudly showing it with this unique helmet, I don’t think the pitlane has seen a helmet like this before," Perez said.
"When I found out I won the competition, the first thing I did was tell my family I couldn’t stop smiling; knowing that my designs will be seen by millions of people is unbelievable and has filled me with happiness and pride. We are all rooting for Checo for the victory," concluded the winner from San Nicolas de los Garza.

I don't much care for how often the helmets are changed now. Miss the days of.knowing exactly which driver was who, just by looking at the helmet design.Although, nowadays the drivers are tugged so deep into the car, coupled with the Halo, they are barely visible.
"nowadays the drivers are tugged so deep into the car, coupled with the Halo, they are barely visible." Great point. Over the years I've found myself preferring to attend MotoGP races because it's so very dynamic, seeing the riders move around on the bike. With F1, and with F1 today, it's "just a car" zipping around the track, you can't even really them move their heads (or even get a peek of their arms steering) like "back in the day". It's kinda hard to describe the difference until one has had a chance to watch both the bikes and the cars on the same track and actually see the difference for yourself. I'll refrain from even talking about engine note between the two series now :)
RBR should have had that person design the commemorative tshirt. Very cool design. Also, why is there no image of the top of the helmet. It's pretty clear there is some cool detail there. The person who chose which images to post must have been a former Sky broadcast director. And yes, it's easy enough to find online, but ...
For some reason,it reminds me of a can of Monster Energy drink, not sure which flavor.
