'Thousands of Perez fans consider plan to block Verstappen'
Despite various appeals from the Mexican organisation and Sergio Perez, Max Verstappen may still face several actions from 'fan groups'. Online, fans of Perez are reportedly uniting to thwart Verstappen.
Ahead of the Mexico Grand Prix, there was already anticipation of an awkward situation for Max Verstappen. The Dutchman received loud boos after the US Grand Prix, and 'Checo, Checo' were chanted during the Dutch national anthem. Possibly, an even bigger witch-hunt awaits Verstappen in Mexico.
Perez fans want to block Verstappen
Red Bull Racing has already taken this into account. Helmut Marko, for instance, already revealed that Verstappen will have two bodyguards with him this weekend. This does not seem entirely unnecessary, as Perez 'fan groups' reportedly plan actions to thwart Verstappen.
Mexican newspaper La Cronica de Hoy reports that thousands of Sergio Perez's followers plan to boo whenever Verstappen enters the picture. However, that is just the tip of the iceberg. According to the newspaper, several online groups report a plan to block the streets through which Max has to pass for events, even at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez itself.
Whether the so-called fans will follow through with the actions remains to be seen, but the call from Grand Prix organisers seems to have fallen on deaf ears for now. The organisation hoped the #racepect campaign would ensure that the public would behave. Perez also already voiced his support for Verstappen, but once on the track, it will be seen whether the fans really heed this.
