Charles Leclerc was in danger of getting into trouble when race control decided to keep an incident under the magnifying glass. The
Ferrari driver got away scot-free, but not
Valtteri Bottas.
Stewards pass verdict on Leclerc and Bottas
Leclerc showed damage to his front wing after colliding with
Sergio Perez at the first corner. Normally,
Formula 1 teams have to repair the damage and they can even be forced to do so during the race by the
FIA. None of this happened with Leclerc and the stewards were of the opinion that the Monegasque was not to blame.
Bottas got off less well. The
Alfa Romeo driver tapped
Lance Stroll around the track and was singled out by the
FIA stewards as the main culprit for the incident with the Aston Martin driver. It landed him a five-second time penalty and two penalty points on his licence. As the Finn did not finish in the points, it has no impact in the World Championship standings.
