'Marko has been approached by a rival of Red Bull Racing'
Helmut Marko has reportedly been approached by a rival team in F1. Things were rumbling at Red Bull in recent weeks, and a rival team wanted to take advantage of that, Business F1 reported.
In recent weeks, it has been raining rumours about Helmut Marko's future at Red Bull Racing. Christian Horner and Marko were reportedly no longer getting along, and Horner was reportedly opting to place Marko out of service. Red Bull has denied all these rumours, but a rival hoped to take advantage of them anyway.
Why Marko does not want to leave Red Bull Racing
According to Business F1 magazine, Marko has been approached by a rival F1 team. A name is not mentioned, but sources close to Marko are said to have confirmed this. Red Bull fans need not fear a Marko departure, as the Austrian is said to have politely declined the position with the other team.
The rejection has mainly to do with the reason for the rapprochement. Marko is said to believe that the rival teams mainly want information from him about Red Bull Racing rather than seeing real added value from his role within the team. Sources close to Marko, therefore, feel that Marko will retire after Red Bull Racing.
Max Verstappen is a big fan of his mentor at Red Bull. Marko was the one who gave him a chance at Toro Rosso and Red Bull Racing. Verstappen is said to have knocked on Red Bull Racing's management door upon hearing the rumours. If Marko leaves, Verstappen is gone too. It does not seem to have come to that for now. Indeed, Marko himself has already indicated he will simply stay at Red Bull.
