After an exciting battle between Mercedes and
Ferrari, the German team could secure second place in the constructors' championship thanks to
George Russell finishing in third place just behind
Charles Leclerc. While Red Bull continued to extend their lead this evening as well, AlphaTauri missed out on overtaking
Williams for P7.
Charles Leclerc maximised his result with finishing second behind
Max Verstappen in Abu Dhabi, but with George Russell finishing third and
Lewis Hamilton also earning two points for Mercedes, the Italian team could only gain a single point on their rivals today. Leclerc tried to let
Sergio Perez pass him on the final lap so the Mexican driver could have a five-second gap to Russell, but it was too late.
Both
McLaren drivers finished ahead of the two Aston Martins in Abu Dhabi, and
Lando Norris' and
Oscar Piastri's team finished ahead of Aston Martin by 22 points.
Yuki Tsunoda was on course to earn enough points for AlphaTauri to jump Williams, but his one-stop was too optimistic and he only finished the race in P8, two places below the necessary target.
