If it is up to Ferrari, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will remain employed by the Italian outfit beyond the 2024 season. With the former, Ferrari is said to be in an advanced stage over a multi-year mega-deal. According to the rumour mill, talks with Sainz are going a lot harder: the Spaniard could 'only' sign a one-year commitment.

Sainz was a guest of one of his personal sponsors on Monday, where he addressed his contract situation. "My first priority is obviously to renew at Ferrari, to continue for many more years, then I will be happy," the driver said, according to SoyMotor. Sainz then reiterated that he wants clarity on his future at Ferrari before the start of the upcoming season.

Sainz feels valued by Ferrari

Without specifically commenting on the rumours about the difficult talks, Sainz in any case let it be known what he wants: "Of course I want to extend and if I extend, I would like to do it for more than one year," he stressed. But he is very happy in Maranello: "I feel perfectly appreciated by Fred [Vasseur], by the whole Ferrari family and that is why I want to extend my contract."

According to Sainz - who is also reportedly interested in Sauber - things will eventually work out between him and the team. At least, under one condition: "If we both want it, we will come to an agreement."
