Remarkable! Mike Krack is now the third longest standing team boss in F1
- GPblog.com
With the departure of Guenther Steiner, there are only two team bosses left in Formula 1 who have served as team principal for more than five years. Rarely have there been so many changes in a short period of time. Here is an overview of the F1 team bosses for the 2024 Formula 1 season.
Steiner had been involved with Haas since 2014, who made their first appearance in Formula 1 in 2016. This made Steiner one of the longest-serving team bosses in F1. However, the Italian's contract was not renewed, and Ayao Komatsu is his replacement. That is not the first new team boss in F1 in recent times.
Which F1 team boss has the longest tenure?
First and second in last year's World Championship standings have the longest serving team bosses. Christian Horner, with 18 years, is the longest-serving team boss at the moment. Horner started as Red Bull Racing's team boss in 2005. Toto Wolff follows at an appropriate distance. The Austrian has been the team boss and CEO of Mercedes since 2013, so he is starting his 12 season for the German team.
All other team bosses have less than three years of experience with their current team. Mike Krack is now third on the list, but is only starting his third season as Aston Martin team boss. For Andrea Stella, James Vowles, Alessandro Alunni Bravi and Frederic Vasseur, it will be only their second season at the helm of their team.
Besides Komatsu, two more team bosses are starting their first season. Laurent Mekies starts as AlphaTauri's new team boss in 2024, succeeding Franz Tost. At Alpine, Bruno Famin will start his first full season after Alpine parted ways with Otmar Szafnauer in mid-2023. Famin was appointed as interim, but a replacement has still not been named.
