Lewis Hamilton and Toto Wolff were both present as the seven-time World Champion drove along Fifth Avenue in New York City in front of fans, as Mercedes and WhatsApp continued celebrations of their brand-new partnership.

'New York Demo Run was "epic"

In the shadow of the iconic Empire State Building on the island of Manhatten, videos were posted by Mercedes onto X (formerly known as Twitter) of Hamilton burning rubber down one of the most expensive shopping streets in the world in a 'New York Demo Run' with the W12 Mercedes. The Brit also excited fans and viewers by doing doughnuts on the closed-off street in the Big Apple.

"That was epic," said Hamilton after he got out of the car. "It has always been a dream of mine to drive an F1 car down Fifth Avenue in New York City. Seeing the crowds and everyone’s excitement was awesome. To do something like this, when you think about the incredible history of this city, is incredible."

Wolff also commented on the event, saying that he's done many events, "but this tops it all. Seeing Fifth Avenue shut down for a Mercedes car to run was spectacular. That is true even by New York standards!"

Along with the W15, the brand-new and infamous 'Emoji car' with a WhatsApp sticker over the front of it also graced Fifth Avenue, as well as driving at the top of the Empire State Building. Both Hamilton and Wolff will be hoping that their Mercedes car will be as popular in Miami as it is in New York as they prepare for the Miami Grand Prix this weekend.
