Ericsson describes Formula 1 as "artificial" after IndyCar test

Marcus Ericsson was left feeling impressed after his first IndyCar test ahead of the 2019 season. In an interview after, he said the cars made him remember why he "fell in love with racing" and labelled Formula 1 as "artificial".

Ericsson completed his final Formula 1 race for Sauber in Abu Dhabi and now looks straight towards his 2019 challenge. His day at Sebring started out as a spectator.

"I'd never seen the cars live before It was cool to see the other guys go out. The car looks really cool. I've watched a lot of clips on youtube to prepare myself for this," Ericsson told F1i.

Ericsson spent five years in Formula 1 so going back to traditional racing and moving away from the F1 glamour surprised the Swede.

"This sort of thing gets me back to why I fell in love with racing. F1 is always going to be F1, you know? But it's sort of a bit artificial in some ways. You always go to these perfect places, and that's not racing, I would say. This takes me back to the passion of racing," Ericsson added.

His team boss confirmed Ericsson passed the test comfortably. He now moves a step closer to the opening race of the season in March.
