Newey reveals future plans after Red Bull departure

Adrian Newey has hinted that he is likely to join another Formula 1 team after leaving Red Bull Racing. The designer admits he would miss his craft if he does not continue with it, although he is not yet making any statements about when he might start working elsewhere.

Newey hints at future after leaving Red Bull

At the beginning of 2025, Newey will say goodbye to Red Bull after almost 20 years of loyal service. The big question now is what he will do: join another F1 team or retire? For the first time, the 65-year-old Briton admits he is considering working for another team.

"If you asked me 15 years ago if, at the age of 65, if I’d seriously consider changing teams and going somewhere else, and doing another 4-5 years, I’d have said you are mad," he said in an interview with Eddie Jordan on Oyster Yachts' YouTube channel.

Newey has since changed his mind, although he says he is ready for a bit of a rest and will enjoy a well-earned holiday first. "At some point, I’ll probably go again," he hints. "I know I’d miss it, if I wasn’t doing it."

As an example, he cites motorsport veterans Bernie Ecclestone and Roger Penske, who are in their 90s and 80s, respectively. "They both said the brain is like muscle, it needs exercise so you need to keep doing that," said Newey, who has been strongly linked to a move to Ferrari.
