'Introduce this special feature': Hamilton's remarkable idea for Monaco
Monaco has always been famous for how difficult it is to overtake, especially in these new generation Formula 1 cars. Lewis Hamilton has come up with a suggestion that could improve the Sunday of the Monaco Grand Prix weekend.
Speaking to GPblog and other media in the paddock, Hamilton joked and asked "Do you guys not fall asleep on Sunday watching?", referring to the lack of overtakes around Monte-Carlo, with 22 in 2023, the highest amount since 2011.
Hamilton, along with other drivers on Thursday, pointed out that Monaco has never really changed. "Monaco continues to be Monaco. It's not really changed much. Cars are getting bigger. It can't be bigger," Hamilton said.
How would Hamilton improve the Grand Prix?
When asked for a way that would improve the racing to secure Monaco's long-term future on the Formula One calendar, Hamilton suggested, "Maybe having special tyres for this race so you have more pit stops would create more variability," saying that "the race is continuously pretty much the same. It's a one-stop race."
"They could definitely come up with a specific weekend," Hamilton continued, "You've got the sprint things that they've added, but for this particular weekend, I think they should come up with some new formula for it rather than just be the same. That's just my opinion."
