Alex Albon post qualifying Monaco Grand Prix

Alex Albon gives insight on his qualifying performance

Alex Albon had a great qualifying session in Monaco. He will start the race in ninth place after making Q3. Williams will be hoping for points in Monaco after having a difficult start to the season, and are the only pointless team alongside Kick Sauber in 2024. After the session, Albon explained exactly why Williams was able to extract a bit more performance out of his car in qualifying.

Speaking in the paddock, Albon said that Williams has more opportunities in Monaco as their weight weakness isn't exposed. "The weight. This is, on paper, this track is the least-weight penalising track of the year. I think Monza's the most and here's the least, so it makes it a fairer game around here. Also, just the DNA, the base car has changed a lot from last year. If you think about the areas we tried to focus on, it was low-speed tight corners, which is exactly what this track is," said Albon, who has just secured his long-term future with Williams.

Albon continued: "Weight's not that easy to lose. At least it isn't for us, so we've got some work to do to try to shake it off, but we've known that. We know our deltas every weekend when we compare where we are to where we could have been, but it is a could have, we do need to fix some parts and try to not be overweight, because I think we could have performances like this a little bit more often."

Albon out qualifies Sargeant again:

Logan Sargeant was once again out-qualified by his teammate. Albon explained why Sargeant was struggling compared to himself in Monaco. He stated that he has a new rear wing, and Sargeant doesn't. Albon hopes part deficits can stop affecting Williams later on in the season. "It's not something that we want. The good thing is we will have one ready for, we'll use this, we'll have a rear wing ready for Barcelona and Hungary, I believe."
