Helmut Marko has a solution for Monaco GP: 'There are plans and ideas'

The Monaco Grand Prix caused a stir. Not because there was much going on during the race, but because it was one of, if not the most boring race of the season. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko is calling for a change.
Change is needed in Monaco, says Marko
Except for the first lap - in which Sergio Perez had a huge crash with Haas drivers Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg and the Alpine accident between Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon, there was hardly any action in the 78-lap race.
"After the red flag, the Monaco GP was a procession," Marko said in his analysis for Speedweek.com. Simply cancelling the race is not the solution, according to the Red Bull Racing consultant. "You cannot imagine Formula 1 without Monaco. This circuit is to circuits what Ferrari is to Formula One teams. But something has to be done. The simplest thing would be to adapt the circuit, and there are already plans and ideas for that."
"For example, another option would be to make two pit stops mandatory or to make the use of all three tyre types mandatory to bring a bit of life into the race. The 2026 rule change envisages the cars becoming slightly lighter and smaller, but that alone will not solve the problem. Either we need to make some tyre changes mandatory or have a layout where there is at least a realistic chance of overtaking," Marko concludes.
