After Christian Horner said there would be no rush in deciding who makes up the 2025 driver lineup for Red Bull after a disappointing Monaco Grand Prix, rumours are circling that a decision by the Austrian team could be made already. Alex Albon also said he thinks he has the potential to fight for the World Championship at Williams. And could there be a new tyre on the horizon for the Monaco Grand Prix next year?
With Sergio Perez's contract running out at the end of the 2024 season, there have been lots of questions pointed towards team boss Christian Horner as to who will join Max Verstappen for the 2025 season. Horner continued to dismiss those questions even after a poor showing from his team at the Monaco Grand Prix, but now, the seat will belong to Sergio Perez. However, the Mexican must drop his wish for a two-year contract to be offered the contract, with Red Bull only wanting to offer a one-year deal. This means that a battle for the 2026 seat is on the cards, but an announcement from Red Bull may be imminent.
After Alex Albon signed a multi-year contract extension at Williams, the Thai-British driver has doubled down on that decision by believing that he can challenge with the British team soon. Albon believes that Williams can be "scoring regular points" next year, and then there is potential for podiums and wins as well. However, he is not expecting any "huge changes in the short term,", so a win at Williams may still be quite far away.
After a red flag on lap 1 meant that the majority of drivers made their only pit stop stationary in the pitlane, there was talk of making some changes to improve the racing spectacle at the Monaco Grand Prix. Pirelli have come up with a "potential" idea, and that is to create a special tyre compound to bring to the principality to improve racing. Pirelli boss Mario Isola said "It is not unrealistic" for that to happen, but a similar track to Monaco will need to be found to test the tyres out if this is to become a reality for 2025.
