Sainz laughs at rumours: 'Funny that every time I sign with someone else'
The winner of this year's Australian Grand Prix, Carlos Sainz, is currently the biggest name available at the driver market. He has to make way for Lewis Hamilton at Ferrari, the Spaniard is yet to sign a new deal elsewhere, even though his name comes up in the rumour mill all the team. For Sainz, that just makes him laugh, he said ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix.
"No, the only thing I can tell you is that there is nothing locked in," Sainz first commented on where things stand about his future to GPblog among other outlets in Canada.
Then, the Spaniard talked about the rumours around him in a disappointed way. "I've seen reports in the media, people saying I've signed. When you look at those things, it makes me laugh because I remember seeing reports three months ago that I had signed for Mercedes or reports that I had signed for Red Bull. I'm not going to have it, so it's just funny now, people are also saying that I've signed for Williams."
He added that there should be consequences for the false reports about him. "It makes me laugh, but sometimes this goes a bit unpunished in a way for some media. Of course, I'm not talking about you guys, because you guys are deep down in Formula 1 and you know when something is being signed or not. So yes, I can just tell you that obviously, it concerns me that people can get away with that kind of stuff."
'Media will know when I actually sign a deal'
Sainz also assured that once he will sign a deal, he will talk about it openly. "Whenever I have something to say or something to announce, you guys will be the first ones to know and I'll be here talking about it. And about my future, I'll put everything into perspective. I really seriously consider everything inside that contract that I signed."
