Aston Martin lost in issues: 'I'd be happy if I could tell you...'
Aston Martin have brought big upgrades to the Imola Grand Prix, a package they hoped could lead them back to the same position they were in at the beginning of the 2023 season. Since the weekend in Imola, Aston Martin have scored two points in total, and their gap now seems to be even higher to the top teams and also Mercedes.
Mike Krack, Aston Martin's team principal, explained that his drivers have now lost confidence. "Well, the car is quite tough to drive, and we have not managed to cure that so far. So what we need is a car more benign, easier to extract potential, give them more confidence. We had something like that in the past, and that was much, much easier for the drivers. If you lack confidence in your car, then you cannot go to the maximum," Krack explained why the British team are currently struggling.
He continued: "You have to take margin and you are much more exposed to these small gaps that we are having these days. And then you can end up on the wrong side of it. And then you start a race much, much further back and there is no point. So it's up to us to fix these issues."
'Not an overriding issue'
"You asked me how long [it would take to fix these issue]. I would be happy if I could tell you in two races we have fixed everything. We're working hard on it to cure these problems and we're trying to bring these updates as quick as possible," Krack said.
"If it was one overriding issue, we would have already fixed it," the team principal from Luxembourg confirmed. On the other hand, just after Krack's interview, in a rainy FP2, Fernando Alonso finished in P1 and Lance Stroll finished third.
