Norris suggests this driver for the win: 'They are more comfortable'
- Wouter Bos
Lando Norris, a race winner since this season, looks to be a worthy opponent of Max Verstappen this season. Together with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, they have already kept the Dutchman from victory several times. Will that happen again in Montreal? If it is up to Norris, yes.
"We have had a great race pace the last few races, so I'm gonna have to say yes," Norris said when asked if he could walk away with the win this weekend. He continued: "I think we're in the fight. It's so close but George [Russell] has been the favourite all weekend. Mercedes has been very quick and George has done a great job."
And although Norris feels he is in contention for the race win, he still considers Russell the top favourite: "Coming into qualifying so you would say on paper, they look like they're a bit more comfortable with where they are from from the first run that they've been pretty much at the top of the time sheets and we necessarily haven't and we've kind of progressed through the weekend a little bit more. But Sunday is always a day we've performed very well, like I said, over the last couple of months. So if we can do the same again tomorrow, then I'm excited to see what race we can put on."
Exciting qualifying
The McLaren team single-handedly bested the second row of the grid with Norris in third place and his teammate Oscar Piastri starting from fourth. It was an extremely exciting qualifying session where Verstappen and Russell ran exactly the same time and the difference between spot one and spot five was less than two tenths. Now it remains to be seen if the race will be just as exciting.
