Logan Sargeant has had another poor start to the Formula One season and is yet to score a point. In his rookie season last year, he scored one point for Williams, with his teammate Alex Albon achieving the rest to secure the team seventh place in the Constructors'. Speaking on The Red Flags podcast, Guenther Steiner has given his verdict on the American driver and has predicted when he could leave the team.

Team principal James Vowles has made it very clear: Carlos Sainz is his number one priority for 2025. With Albon extending his contract with the team, it seems that Sargeant will be left without a seat. The podcast hosts asked Steiner 'at what point does Williams pull the plug on Logan Sargeant?', joking that the team should "get Kimi in there" instead. Nevertheless, the former Hass team boss offered his verdict: "I think end of the year," Steiner said. "I don't know how the contract is phrased. There's a lot of stuff going on there which we don't know."

'At some stage, enough is enough'

There has been much speculation over Sargeant's contract given his performance this year. Earlier this season, it was revealed that an application had been made by the team to grant 17-year-old F2 driver Kimi Antonelli a superlicense. Last week, the FIA also changed the rules regarding the license, adding that although the rules state you must be 18 to obtain one, special dispensation can be made for certain drivers to receive one at 17. Nevertheless, it seems Mercedes are most interesed in the young driver. For Steiner, he understands that sometimes decisions have to be made when a driver is not performing well enough. “First of all, you always try to work with the people you've got. You need to show in a team that you try to do the best. Obviously, at some stage, enough is enough. It's like, why are we doing this?”

Although Steiner does think the contract between Williams and Sargeant will go to the end of the season, he wouldn't rule out the American being replaced earlier. Sargeant has failed to finish two races, or score any points, with his highest finish being 15th. "I think it will go to the eend. But I think if there's a few more like this before the summer break, after the sumer break, maybe there's someone else in the cockpit. I think it will go all together with who is going to drive the car next year," he concluded.
