Ocon responds to row within Alpine

Ocon reacts after outburst in Canada: has peace been restored?

20 June at 15:10

Esteban Ocon was furious after the Canadian Grand Prix. Alpine had asked him to give up a place to teammate Pierre Gasly, and he ended up not having to give the spot back. In Spain, of course, Ocon was asked about it again.

In the closing stages of the Canadian Grand Prix, Ocon was summoned by the team to give up his ninth place to Gasly. Gasly was driving on newer tyres and, according to the team, still had a chance to overtake Daniel Ricciardo. The latter did not succeed and where Ocon had expected his team to give the spot back afterwards, this did not happen.

After the race, Ocon reacted over the team radio and to the media with outrage at his team's action. Two weeks later, the Frenchman seems somewhat subdued, or at least has been asked not to talk about it anymore.

What Ocon has to say on the incident with Gasly

"I'm not going to comment on any of that. I think the important thing is to move forward and focus on this weekend. Canada has happened. The important thing is, as I said, Barcelona this weekend is a proving ground for every Formula One team because anything that you do in terms of testing, testing parts in the simulator, how many winter tests we've done.

"I suspect it's going to be a difficult weekend for us. We're not bringing updates this weekend. If it's a normal qualifying with the heat as well, it could be tricky in terms of performance, but there could be some rain on Sunday. We were quite competitive in Canada in the wet, and I think it has opened up opportunities for fighting."

Ocon thus bypassed the actual question. After the race, in fact, he was very frustrated. In the meantime, has he expressed those frustrations with the team? "I'm focusing on here. That's all I will tell you."
