Red Bull are not sitting still: Secret test with Verstappen at Imola
- Ludo van Denderen
Max Verstappen also won the previous Grand Prix in Canada, the second win in the last three races. A fine average, although things have certainly not been going smoothly for the Dutchman and his Red Bull team lately. So while McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari are getting closer, the Austrian team certainly cannot sit still.
That was also the reason for a secret test in Italy last Wednesday. De Telegraaf reports that Verstappen drove laps in Imola in the RB18 (from 2022) to "study what the differences are with this season's car, both positive and negative".
No major updates at Red Bull for now
Barcelona - where the F1 circus has now arrived for the next Grand Prix - has also seen a lot of testing in recent years. With all the data available to the teams for this track, it was commonplace for years to introduce a lot of updates on the cars in Spain. Now that Barcelona is already the tenth race on the crowded F1 calendar, the teams are a lot more cautious about it.
Red Bull, too, has made hardly any changes to the RB20 for Barcelona. Only in a few details, new parts have been implemented. A bigger update package will basically only follow sometime in July. An exact Grand Prix before that has not yet been announced.
