Red Bull and British super-talent Lindblad shows class with F3 race win
- Ludo van Denderen
In a weekend that saw the first open speculation of an early F1 entry, Arvid Lindblad has shown why he is so highly regarded. The Red Bull Racing British super-talent won the feature race in Formula 3 at the Barcelona circuit in convincing fashion on Sunday at just 16 years old.
Already in his very first race in F3 earlier this season, Lindblad managed to win. That was a sprint race, but in Barcelona, he won his first feature race from the second starting spot behind polesitter Christian Mansell. This result comes on the very weekend that the talented Brit is being linked to a role with one of Red Bull's F1 teams. With the changed rules for obtaining a super licence, Lindblad can drive in FP1 in Formula 1 as early as '25.
Marko impressed with Lindblad
In Barcelona, the world could see why Helmut Marko (who runs the Red Bull training programme) rates Lindblad so highly. After driving several laps behind Mansell, the Briton made a handsome and successful overtaking attempt on the Australian, only to disappear into the distance. Meanwhile, Lindblad managed to keep his tyres up just fine, unlike a lot of his competitors.
In the end, Lindblad crossed the line first, more than four seconds ahead of Mansell. Leonardo Fornaroli made off with the final podium spot.
