Norris once again misses out victory P3 British GP 2024
7 July at 19:38

When the first rain drops got to the Silverstone circuit, Lando Norris found himself in the lead. Then McLaren decided to pit a later later than ideal for slicks, that meant Norris lost the lead to Lewis Hamilton. The McLaren driver eventually finished the race in P3.

Lando Norris looked to be on course to win a tricky British Grand Prix, at least it seemed like that, but then, during his second stop, he fell to P2. "I've heard that a lot lately [it was not meant to be], I hate saying it again but yes, so many things were going well and we threw it away in the final stop. One lap but also I don't think it was a lap, I think even if I boxed on the perfect lap our decision to go into the softs was the wrong one. I think Lewis still would have won no matter what so two calls from our side cost us everything today. Especially here, pretty disappointing," Norris summed up his feelings at Silverstone.

Norris excited about battle at the front

On the other hand, the battle between the top teams does excite Norris. "Oscar [Piastri], George [Russell], there are many of us in the fight so I expect it to be good battles but I'm sure Ferrari at some point will get their act together and then come back. We also weren't quick enough today I think when it was completely dry, the Mercedes was a lot quicker and in the more slippery conditions, maybe we seemed to be better. So, we have work to do."

Norris believes the team need to continue to improve "I don’t think we’ve had a weekend where we've clearly been the quickest. We've always been there or thereabouts, but never THE car. I think we need to keep working as a team. I need to keep working on my own stuff and just try and put it together because there are still so many positives," the one-time Grand Prix winner underlined.

Norris concluded: "There are so many good things and so many things in place, but frustrating when a few times this season we've thrown away something that should have been ours."
