It is still not known which team Carlos Sainz will drive for in 2025. The Spaniard is in his final season at Ferrari and will then have to leave before the arrival of Lewis Hamilton. Meanwhile, it is known that Williams is all too keen to bring Sainz in. Also at Silverstone, team principal James Vowles has commented on Sainz but indicates that several options are ready.

Vowles says Sainz is top priority, but no decision will be made for now. "I mean, he (Sainz) is a world-class driver. So the decision is not so obvious. It's not today that we have to do it. But what I have always said is that the timeline is less important for me," Vowles revealed.

Vowles aspires to a long-term vision with Williams

Vowles is busy preparing for 2026. Recently, Alexander Albon extended his contract for several seasons in view of the new regulations that will take effect in 2026. With Sainz alongside Albon, the British racing stable hopes to ready a strong driver duo. "What is more important is that whatever decision we come to or whatever driver the decision comes to, it is about forging a long-term relationship with each other. I both see the journey we are on and want it to be part of their lives. I am pretty sure this will all be clarified before we arrive in September," Vowles added.

Vowles has several options ready

With Sainz in mind, Williams still has several options ready to succeed Logan Sargeant. But which ones are those? Vowles is leaving that open for now. "I think we are at about plan Y or Z now for clarity. But it will all be known soon," Vowles concluded.
