Does Marko still have confidence in Red Bull's performance? 'I am sceptical'
- Cas van de Kleut
Red Bull Racing is in a difficult period. The team is no longer the team from the beginning of the season, the team that managed to win almost every race. Helmut Marko is therefore sceptical in terms of his predictions on how the team will do in Hungary, he informed the Austrian Krone Zeitung.
Old standards no longer provide guarantees for Red Bull. The other teams have improved so much that it is close in the battle for victory at every track. McLaren has a fast car and Mercedes is also competing for the higher positions again at once.
Marko is sceptical about Red Bull's chances in Hungary
So it's a tricky phase for Red Bull, Marko too sees: "I hope it's like before that our car works better in hot temperatures. But after the latest findings, I am quite sceptical. We have problems balancing the car and getting the tyres to the right temperatures. While McLaren manages that right away, we only manage it with difficulty in the third practice session or only in qualifying."
Red Bull is doing everything it can to be as much ahead of the competition as possible. For that reason, it is taking a big upgrade to the Hungaroring: "We hope this will work because our do is to win on our own again. We cannot trust McLaren, Mercedes and Ferrari to take turns to stay ahead of us in the long run."
McLaren has the best package at the moment, said Marko: "The fastest package, but they did not finish first due to driving and strategy errors. Mercedes showed some sparkle again in the last two races and Ferrari is getting stronger again, even if people joked after their win in Monaco that they had jumped into the harbour and never came up again. So we have four teams that are on equal footing."
