Adrian Newey has revealed his favourite car in conversation with Formula1.com. The top designer himself created more than 10 cars that eventually won an F1 championship, but - outside of those cars - what is the car he gets hottest about?

Almost logically, that is not a car that has been developed by a competitor since Newey entered Formula 1. So for that, we have to go back to the pre-1988 period.

"It’s such a difficult one, isn’t it? It’s very subjective, of course," Newey said. After thinking for a moment, he chooses the Lotus 49, powered by a Ford Cosworth DFV engine. The car designed by Colin Chapman and Maurice Philippe was first used back in 1967. "That was a big influence when I was little, and sort of shaped my determination to try to take this career path."

Newey fell in love with the Lotus 49 to such an extent that today he owns a Lotus 49B (created for the 1968 season), and drove the car at the Grand Prix de Monaco Historique this year.
