Former Formula 1 driver turned pundit Martin Brundle has responded to TV presenter and fan Jeremy Clarkson's criticisms of the championship's racetracks.

Max Verstappen took victory at Suzuka to close the gap to McLaren's Lando Norris to a single point after three races as the sport swiftly heads to Bahrain for the second leg of the season's first triple-header.

Clarkson took to social media after a Japanese Grand Prix bereft of on-track action, where the top six drivers finished where they started for the first time in F1 history.

The TV personality wrote: "I’ve had an idea to make F1 racing more consistently exciting. Don’t use tracks where overtaking is difficult."

Brundle responds

Brundle and Clarkson are known to be friends and the duo often catch up as part of the Sky Sports F1 commentator's grid walks.

In response to the criticism of F1's tracks, Brundle replied: "Jezza it’s a bit like a harvest, sometimes you have to be patient.

"From four starts this season we’ve had four different winners. Some football matches are nil-nil. Some are last minute 5-4 thrillers.

"That’s sport. I know you love F1 really. Change the cars, not the tracks."
