Jackie Stewart is auctioning off a special helmet, signed by multiple world champions. The list includes Michael Schumacher, who signed the helmet with the aid of his wife.
The helmet was signed by 20 world champions. Wearing that, 85-year-old Jackie Stewart will complete a special tribute lap at the Bahrain International Circuit, marking the 60th anniversary of his F1 debut.
Schumacher, who has not appeared in public since his serious head injury in 2013, has written his initials on the helmet with the help of his wife Corinna. The helmet will be used to raise awareness and funds for Stewart's charity, Race Against Dementia. The three-time world champion established the charity in 2016 after his wife Helen's diagnosis.
The organisation is also inspired by Formula 1, and by innovation, in order to win the race against dementia. The charity also fund researches, currently, one done by Cambridge University, that aims to detect the signs of frontotemporal dementia decades before it develops.
"It is wonderful that Michael could sign the helmet in this worthy cause – a disease for which there is no cure. His wife helped him, and it completed the set of every single champion still with us," Stewart told The Daily Mail.
The helmet symbolises hope and determination, and it will feature the distinctive tartan the Scottish driver wore in the 60s and 70s.
