Perez knows where to improve: 'I made a mistake'
During the summer break, it was confirmed than Sergio Perez will remain at Red Bull Racing for the upcoming Grands Prix. After the Mexican has been criticised for his recent performance, the Mexican did not have the easiest Friday at the Dutch Grand Prix, he told F1TV.
After a P12 finish in changeable conditions in FP1, Sergio Perez finished once again in P12 in the second session of the Friday in Zandvoort. "We've been testing quite a bit of stuff out there," the Mexican began to explain how the aforementioned two sessions played out for him. Turn 1 was a difficult one to master for the Mexican, as he went into the gravel trap there in FP2.
On Friday, Perez's teammate, Max Verstappen finished in P2 then in P5 in the Netherlands. Regarding his lap time, Perez knows where he as to improve. "Our day looks a little bit better than it shows in terms of order. But overall, I did a mistake in the Turn 12, I went off, so I lost a couple of tenths. Overall we've got some work to do, especially in the long run pace, to try to match the people ahead. I think we've run both cars very differently, so I think we've got a busy day ahead."
How does the new race engineer affect Perez?
Perez's usually race engineer, Hugh Bird, is on paternity leave at the moment, expecting his baby. As a result, the driver now has teamed up with Richard Wood for the upcoming weekends. "It's obviously a little bit new for all of us to have Woody as a race engineer. It stands out on my side. But I think every session is just going to get better and [we are getting] more used to it," Perez explained how the pair got on during their first day together this weekend.
