Verstappen blunt after defeat in his home race: 'Not fast enough'
- Nicole Mulder
Max Verstappen had to settle for second place - for the first time - in his home race at Circuit Zandvoort. He simply could not keep up with the pace of Lando Norris with his Red Bull Racing car and thus resigned himself to second place.
Verstappen resigned to P2 Zandvoort
After a mega-start, Verstappen went into the lead and still seemed to have a good chance of winning, but on the eighteenth lap, the best was out of his mediums, and Norris passed him with ease. After this, the Dutchman could not overtake him.
"Well, you are always trying to do better. We had a good start, so we tried everything we could today, but it's quite clear that we were not quick enough, so I tried to be P2 today," Verstappen concluded after the finish.
"We were confident we can have a good start, and luckily we did, then I was just doing my own race," concluded the three-time world champion.
