Norris brings bad news for Verstappen and delivers fighting talk
Lando Norris is ready to turn up the heat on Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing and continue the momentum gained from his dominant win at the Dutch Grand Prix. Norris has a slim chance of catching Max Verstappen and challenging for the 2024 Formula 1 World Championship. With nine Grands Prix remaining and three sprint races, Norris has a 70-point gap to bridge.
The McLaren driver became a multiple Grand Prix winner in the Netherlands, but the gap caused Red Bull bigger headaches. Norris won by more than 20 seconds, the biggest winning gap of the season so far. Ahead of the Italian Grand Prix, Norris promises McLaren have done all they can to be "even better".
Will McLaren be even stronger in Monza?
The nature and characteristics of the Monza circuit seemingly (slightly) favour Red Bull Racing but McLaren are confident recent upgrades will bring them closer on these kind of circuits. The 24-year-old is looking forward to the race.
“I’m excited to be going to Monza as a two-time Grand Prix winner. It was a great way to start the second part of the 2024 season, and we’ll hopefully carry this momentum into this weekend as we look to continue closing the Championship gaps," Norris said.
“This is a track I’ve done well at in the past. It’s also the fastest circuit on the calendar, which makes it all the more fun. We’ve done our preparations and we’ve gone over what we could do even better to ensure more wins in the future. Now we’ve got our heads down and we’re ready to bring in another set of good points for the team.”
In the 2021 Italian Grand Prix, Norris secured his best result at the time. In fact, he was part of a McLaren one-two at Monza, but his teammate Daniel Ricciardo won the race. He has scored at every Grand Prix he has competed in at Monza, even when McLaren were not at their strongest.
