Franco Colapinto will make his Formula One debut getting promoted from
Formula 2 this weekend, as the Argentinian driver will replace
Logan Sargeant for the rest of the season. Meanwhile, Andrea Kimi Antonelli will also drive for Mercedes in FP1, replacing George Russell. A driver who is already an F2 champion, however, will not participate this weekend at Aston Martin.
The British team were planning to give
Fernando Alonso's car to Felipe Drugovich during FP1 of the
Italian Grand Prix. Every year, a team have to give a driver with less than two GPs a chance twice over the course of the year during a free practice session. Andrea Kimi Antonelli will drive
George Russell's Mercedes for example in Monza, while Robert Shwartzman replaced
Valtteri Bottas at the Dutch GP a week ago.
Originally, Drugovich was meant to drive this weekend, but it was decided otherwise. "Yeah, exactly. Originally, I think I was giving my FP1 to Felipe here in Monza. Then we understood that the resurface was a little bit bigger than we thought. The kerbs were different than we thought," Alonso told GPblog among others about the change.
"The team changed the plan and I think it's going to happen in Mexico now," the Spaniard added about his team's decision.
