Verstappen fears the worst ahead of Italian GP due to this issue
- Sandy van Wijngaarden
Max Verstappen suffered from low grip and tyre wear during qualifying in Monza. After the session, the Dutchman expressed his expectations for the race on this aspect. He doesn't have many positive predictions for himself.
In the first two parts of qualifying, the car still worked reasonably well to the Dutchman's liking. During Q3, he lost a lot of speed. After the session, Verstappen expressed that he really does not understand why this came about.
Verstappen expects a lot of tyre wear
In a press briefing with GPblog and others, the Dutchman said that tyre wear will also be an issue for Sunday's race. "If you already have balance problems over one lap, it will not be solved suddenly in the race. A car that is normally good over one lap will only be even better in the race. That is obviously not the case with us."
Still, Verstappen expects the car to come into its own slightly better in the Grand Prix. "It will be slightly more effective for tomorrow. Our DRS-flap is just not efficient over one lap. In the race, it's all a bit better. But then again, that's not our only problem of course," said the Dutchman.
