Newey gets compliments from former Red Bull driver: 'That's really unique'
Pierre Gasly may not have spent a long time driving a Red Bull Racing time, but he could work together with top designer Adrian Newey at the Austrian team. In the 2019 season, the Frenchman drove 12 Grands Prix for the team, but has good memories of the Briton.
Adrian Newey has made the headlines on multiple occasions this season. After it was announced during the Miami GP that he will leave Red Bull Racing, ahead of the Azerbaijan GP, it was officially announced that he will join Aston Martin next year. The designer was named managing technical partner, and also received shares of the comapny.
Gasly compliments Newey
"It was a very special six months working with him," Gasly began. "He got the chance to work for a much longer time but he's one of the most successful car designers in our sport. He's got a very unique way of approaching racing, approaching design. I walk in the factory and see him in front of his board drawing all sort of stuff which I could not even tell what what was really going on there."
According to Gasly, he could not only work well together with the Briton on, but also off the track. "Ultimately it just seems to work when it gets to the track. A very humble person which I liked on a personal level. I always had great talks with him and always accessible which was very enjoyable for the time we were working," the one-time Grand Prix winner concluded.
