Is Lawson thinking about making the next step to Red Bull? 'I'm aware...'

While Liam Lawson could replace Daniel Ricciardo at Visa Cash App RB, he does not have a contract yet for the upcoming Formula One season. Now, the driver from New Zealand has six weekends to perform in order to be confirmed for the next season as well.

"They're expecting me to perform at least as well as Yuki, I would say, is what the goal is from the team. Obviously, the team is fighting for six in the constructors, and that's quite important for the VCARB. So to basically score points is the goal. And if we're scoring points, then I think at that point, we're basically doing a good job. So honestly, that's the target that's been set," Lawson explained what is expected of him. In terms of the constructors standings, the Faenza-based team are three points behind Haas F1.

Does Lawson think about Red Bull?

Lawson could already drive in the competition last season during five weekends, after Ricciardo got injured in Zandvoort. For now, especially according to top advisor Helmut Marko, there is a chance that we can already see him driving for Red Bull next season, as the Austrian said they are evaluating whether Lawson and Yuki Tsunoda could replace Sergio Perez.

"It's not in my mind. But I'm definitely aware that being in the second team to Red Bull Racing, that the future, if I do a good job, is going to be going to... My goal is to go to Red Bull Racing in the future. And I know that obviously from their side as well, they're trying to look for the future of Red Bull Racing for when either Max and Checo eventually go somewhere, then they always need drivers to be ready for that," Lawson said.

"When that can happen, that's not something I'm really thinking about because I know that it's going to completely depend on how I go in my current seat," the driver from New Zealand concluded.
