Albon on special milestone: Glad to carry the torch with Norris and Russell
Alexander Albon is set for a special milestone this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas. The Thai driver will compete in his 100th Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday. Albon revisited his career in the competition so far.
Albon on racing against drivers like Verstappen
"[It’s] just great that we're all still here, in some ways. I think there's one thing becoming Formula 1 drivers, there's another thing staying as Formula 1 drivers – obviously I dipped in and out, or out and in, for a year [in 2021]," Albon began to F1.com about competing against the drivers he grew up with as a young driver, George Russell and Lando Norris.
"But it's amazing. I think when I look back and I see not just us three, but Charles [Leclerc], Max [Verstappen], Carlos [Sainz]... Esteban [Ocon], Pierre [Gasly] – a lot of us raced against each other, and so to still be racing against each other, it feels quite surreal in some ways," the Williams first driver continued.
Now, Albon will not only have to compete against his generation, but new rookies are also on the block, together with experienced champions like Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso. Franco Colapinto was promoted from Formula 2 to replace Logan Sargeant as Albon's teammate, while three drivers will make their debut next season, including Oliver Bearman, Kimi Antonelli and Jack Doohan.
