Debate | Verstappen needs to adjust driving style after penalties in Mexico
Max Verstappen barely gives an inch to any rival in Formula One. It is partially why the Red Bull driver is so successful and a multiple-time world champion, but in Mexico, he received two 10-second penalties for his battle against Lando Norris. GPblog therefore presents you the question: Should the three-time world champion make adjustments to his driving style?
According Lando Norris, why the Briton has a lot of respect for his championship rival, Verstappen was not 'fair' at the Autodomo Hermanos Rodriguez, and believes the penalties were justified. The Dutchman left decided to focus on his problems with the RB20 in the paddock following the race.
In their battle for the world title, Verstappen can be hurt heavily by time penalties. While he might have just prevented Norris winning the Mexican Grand Prix, because of the penalties, he himself finished behind the two Mercedes drivers, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.
Did those maneouvres pay off for the Red Bull driver? It is a 'what if' question. However, also what makes the Dutchman so good is his style. Jos Verstappen has also told De Telegraaf that his son will not change his aproach, no matter what the stewards say. "Max is not going to change his driving style because there were a few stewards present now who are not comfortable with him anyway," the former Benetton driver said.
