Vasseur hopes to hit the jackpot in Vegas: 'My drivers are ready'
The battle in the constructors' standings is reaching boiling point, with McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull in the running. Second-placed Ferrari's team principal, Fred Vasseur, is ready to bring the fight to McLaren and Red Bull. McLaren and Ferrari are the most likely to win that battle heading into the Las Vegas Grand Prix. The Frenchman looks ahead to the race in the 'Sin City' as Ferrari tries to close the 36-point gap to their closest rivals.
"It’s time for the final triple-header showdown to decide the outcome of this very busy season. The last three Grands Prix all involve racing at night in desert locations: we start in Las Vegas, at a very fast street circuit with few corners, several of them being 90-degree turns," Vasseur began in Ferrari's pre-Las Vegas press release. After the race in Vegas, teams will be challenged by a race in Qatar and then Abu Dhabi to close the 2024 season.
"However, there are still plenty of interesting variables, starting with the temperature, which drops considerably at night. It means that getting the tyres into the right operating window for qualifying and the race will be particularly important," Vasseur explained. This variable might have an interesting effect on the performance of certain teams and drivers.
Will Ferrari hit the jackpot in Vegas?
The Scuderia are confident that the constructors championship can be taken back to Maranello for the first time since 2008. "For our part, we intend to be fighting at the front, just as we were last year: we know we have the potential to come away with a strong result as long as we ensure we are on top of our game down to the smallest detail. We have prepared well back at the factory, and Charles, Carlos, and the whole team have been able to enjoy a very short break, ready to go again, more determined than ever. We are confident, and we know what we have to do to keep the Constructors’ title fight alive." The Ferrari boss concluded.
Red Bull Racing sits 13 points behind Ferrari in third place, while Ferrari have the aformentioned 36-point deficit behind McLaren. It's still very possible for the Milton Keynes-based team to triumph. In just a few days, we will find out if Red Bull can win back-to-back races and cement themselves as a constructors title challenger.
