Verstappen on possible Las Vegas championship: 'I have to be realistic...'
- Estéban den Toom
Max Verstappen could become a four-time Formula 1 world champion in Las Vegas. The difference between himself and Lando Norris is 62 points in the championship. Before the weekend, the Red Bull driver told GPblog and others how he feels about the world championship, and whether it can be achieved this weekend.
Verstappen put himself in this perfect position thanks to an excellent race in the rain in Brazil, winning from P17 on the grid. Norris, the only one who can still keep the Dutchman from a fourth consecutive title, spoke about "being down for a week" after Verstappen scored many more points than him. As a result, there is a huge chance for Verstappen to seal the title in the 'Sin City', as he talks about the possible championship win.
Verstappen on the F1 championship
"At the moment, it's difficult to tell, because if you look at the last few races, in the dry, of course, we didn't have the pace. It's not that because we won in the rain in Brazil suddenly everything is fixed and everything is looking great. It, of course, gave me a good position in the championship, but I also have to be realistic that we're still not the quickest," the Red Bull Racing driver said.
"I hope that we can be competitive here. It's still very unknown with the track temperatures like last year, very cold and what that will do with the behaviour of the tyres. We need to again figure it out in practice," the Dutchman concluded.
