If the Las Vegas GP would be over after qualifying, Max Verstappen would have been crowned champion in the 'Sin City'. Therefore, Norris needs to overtake the Dutchman in Las Vegas on Sunday morning (Saturday night local time). The Briton reacted to how this result in qualifying influences his chances for the world title.

Norris on the championship battle with Verstappen

Lando Norris will start from P6 on the grid in Las Vegas, alongside Max Verstappen on the grid. If Verstappen could score two more points, he would secure his fourth world title in Formula One.

Following qualifying in Las Vegas, Norris said he is proud to be the driver to challenge the Dutchman. "Of course. I mean, I'm the one there fighting Max, so I'm not proud that it's me and not anyone else. Do I wish he could have gone a bit further down the line? Sure, but the race was lost in the first six races of the year. That's when Max dominated, is when Red Bull were too far ahead and points got to a gap which was just too difficult to claw back. I'm proud. I'm happy we brought it this far. And it's us. No one else," he told GPblog and others.

Entering the Las Vegas GP, the gap between the duo stands at 62 points. If Norris could manage to outscore his rival tomorrow, the Briton will still be mathematically in contention in Qatar next weekend.
