Hulkenberg praises Verstappen: 'What a guy, huge respect for that'
While Max Verstappen somewhat stole the show in Las Vegas with winning the drivers' championship. Nico Hulkenberg also scored important points for Haas in the battle for P6 in the constructors' championship. With the German finishing in P8, they have now overtaken Alpine in the standings. Hulkenberg also congratulated Verstappen in the 'Sin City'.
"Incredible. What a guy!", Hulkenberg first reacted to Verstappen winning his fourth title. "He's just so strong, so quick all the time regardless of the temperature, the conditions. Hardly makes any mistakes and always just maximises what he can, even if he doesn't have the winning car or the best car. Huge respect for that, and many congratulations to him. He did incredibly well again," he told GPblog among others.
Hulkenberg scores important points in different battle
The German himself had a great day in Las Vegas GP. In a close battle between Haas, VCARB and Alpine, Hulkenberg scored the most points last weekend thanks to him finishing in eighth place. As a result, Haas are ahead of Alpine by a single point, and four points ahead of VCARB in the constructors' championship.
"You never know, but every point is important," Hulkenberg said of how important that overtaking move on Tsunoda could be at the end. "You never know, but every point matters for sure. For now, just happy that we maximised the opportunity today. We had the pace, but it was certainly a tough and challenging race with the tyres and with graining."
The Haas driver continued: "I guess for at least everyone in the midfield had the same symptoms and difficulties. But I think we managed it well, offset our strategy a bit, decided to delay the stops to have fresher tyres at the end. That worked well and paid off, so [I am] happy."
