The constructors is closing in! Piastri says: 'we need to finish ahead'
- Savannah Lenz
McLaren has one job and one job only this weekend: to finish ahead of Ferrari. After failing to do so last weekend, they need to push forward and place ahead this weekend.
During the Qatar GP sprint race, it was a McLaren 1-2, while the Ferraris were down in fourth and fifth. With only two more races left, both teams need to outscore the other.
Piastri knows what they need to do
Oscar Piastri knows what they need to do to win the constructors. "I know that we need to finish ahead of them. I know that it’s 14 points we need. I know it's to finish where or whatever". But the Australian isn't stressing about it. "I’ll worry about that after the race or let the engineers in the team worry about that for me."
His goal? "The first aim is to finish ahead of Ferrari, and if we can make progress forward, we'll do that too".
If Piastri seems confident, it's because he is, and so is the team. He said, "The confidence is definitely there, and the sprint today definitely helped with that. But there's not kind of an overbearing pressure on them. We still want to make the car as quick as possible and beat everybody, not just Ferrari."
He continued, "Of course, they're a bit of a higher priority if it comes into a 1v1 kind of battle. But again, the best way to beat them is just by winning the race. Our focus has been a lot on that".
Piastri is doing his best, and he will continue "just trying to put any bit of extra focus that we have left onto executing as well as possible."
