The 2024 Formula 1 season may be over, but there is still on-track action occurring, with the post-season test in Abu Dhabi taking place today. Along with that, the news broke that Ferrari will supply Cadillac and General Motors with engines when the American team come to the grid for the 2026 season

Ferrari to supply engines to Cadillac

Earlier in the day, the news broke that Cadillac were to drive with Ferrari engines when the American team join the grid for the 2026 season. There was hope that Cadillac and General Motors would be able to use their own engines they are manufacturing, but the use of those engineers might be as early as 2028, perhaps 2030 or beyond.

As a result, they needed some engine power for their car, and after Alpine made the decision to stop manufacturing their own F1 power units, the American team were stuck without a supplier. However, there were already hopes that Cadillac and GM were hopeful that Ferrari would give them some engine power, which GPblog found out after talking with the new 'Director of the Borad' Mario Andretti.

Along with this, Sauber, who uses Ferrari engines, will become Audi and have their own power units in 2026, meaning a space opened perfectly for Cadillac to use Ferrari and their power units. "We are thrilled to partner with Ferrari as the power unit and gearbox supplier for our Cadillac team, bringing together two remarkable legacies," said newly-appointed team principal, Graeme Lowdon. Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur also had his say on the news, saying, "We are delighted that we will be supplying the team with our power unit and gearbox as the basis of this technical collaboration."

Reaction to post-season testing in Abu Dhabi

Today at the Yas Marina Circuit, where the season finale of the 2024 F1 season took place just a couple of days ago, the post-season test happened today, with drivers testing cars for their new teams in 2025, while other drivers like Yuki Tsunoda had the chance to drive away from their junior team.

Before the session even got underway, it was not to be for new Mercedes driver and Lewis Hamilton replacement Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who missed the testing in the Middle East due to illness. However, during the afternoon, the Italian felt well enough to sit in the Mercedes and test for the second part of the day.

Come the end of the session, it was the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc at the top of the standings, with former teammate Carlos Sainz in P2, now behind the wheel of the Williams. Antonelli's new teammate George Russell rounded out the top three, while Tsunoda and Red Bull junior driver Isack Hadjar shared their thoughts on their day after neither of them made the top ten.

After the session, there were thoughts from Pirelli's boss Mario Isola, who was pleased with the running of " a very useful test". However, there were also some words on the brand new C6 tyre that was being tried and tested in Abu Dhabi today, with there being a couple of issues that Pirelli will want to improve before it is next used.
