F1 Today | Drivers vote Verstappen as 2024's best, F1 CEO advises Hamilton

22 December at 22:00

We are getting closer to Christmas, but there is still news coming from the F1 world! Today, Max Verstappen has been voted by his fellow drivers as the best of 2024. Michael Schumacher's family have announced some good news, and F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali has advised Lewis Hamilton before his much-anticipated move to Ferrari in 2025. Also, McLaren team principal Andrea Stella waxed lyrical over a former Red Bull engineering chief who the Woking-based team poached for the start of 2024.

Drivers vote Verstappen as the best of 2024

Max Verstappen has also been voted the best driver of 2024 by his Formula 1 colleagues. The figures on the F1 website reveal that the Dutchman received the best score among his fellow drivers after also winning the team principals' vote in a similar competition. Verstappen himself did not vote with the others. The number of points per driver has not been disclosed, but the final standings have been published. After Verstappen, Norris has scored the most points. In third place is Charles Leclerc, making the top three exactly the same as in the season's championship. See the full standings with this link here.

Good news from the Schumacher family

Some positive news has been shared by the Schumacher family. Michael and his wife, Corina, are, in fact, becoming grandparents. It is not the former F1 driver, Mick, who will be a father, but his sister, Gina, is expecting a baby. She also revealed she will have a girl, with the baby expected to be born in mid-April 2025. 'Future Uncle' Mick responded with: "So excited", together with a heart emoji. Michael Schumacher and Jos Verstappen were teammates in the early 1990s at Benetton, and it is no secret that the pair got on well together. The duo also gave interviews together about the sons becoming F1 drivers in the future back in the day. See the announcement here.

Domenicali advises Hamilton before Ferrari move

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali is excited for Lewis Hamilton to move to Ferrari in 2025. The seven-time F1 world champion drove his last race for Mercedes in Abu Dhabi. After 12 seasons with the Brackley-based team, Hamilton heads to a new environment in Maranello for 2025. Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali says Hamilton must focus on learning the language if he is to integrate himself with the Italian team, as he told Autoracer.

"He will bring a lot of interest. He is learning Italian to understand how to integrate into our culture. I told him it is also essential for him to be able to do that. At Ferrari, he will be in a different environment [than what he is used to]." See the F1 CEO's full declaration here!

McLaren lyrical over former Red Bull chief

McLaren boss Andrea Stella is extremely impressed by former Red Bull chief designer Rob Marshall, who worked alongside Adrian Newey. Rob Marshall joined McLaren in 2024, bringing a wealth of experience from his previous role as a key figure at Red Bull Racing. Andrea Stella expressed his satisfaction with Marshall’s contributions, telling GPblog and others that the chief designer will play a pivotal role in shaping McLaren’s cars in the years ahead.

"Rob brings fantastic human qualities, is a very positive person, everyone enjoys working with him, and he is full of energy. You can see him in the garage, and very often, he's lying under the car, on the ground. Everyone appreciates his incredible knowledge," Stella explained. Read about Marshall's full impact here
