In 2026, there will be a new addition to the Formula 1 grid. In collaboration with Cadillac, General Motors will join F1 as an 11th team. In an attempt to start getting themselves ready, the US-based team has hired a familiar face.

Marcus Ericsson, a former F1 driver for Caterham and Sauber, has mentioned that he has helped GM/Cadillac with simulator work. The Swede, who has been out of Formula 1 since 2018, has made a partial return to the sport.

'Andretti asked me to come to England'

Ericsson told Viaplay“My employer, Andretti, has asked me to fly to England to test different simulators. I will provide feedback so they can choose the right model for the whole organisation, including Formula 1, IndyCar, and sports cars.” He noted that he accepted the offer.

“Simulators have become an integral part of motorsport, and I’ve been working on improving my own use over the winter. It’s great that they want to use me and my experience to help.”

Ericsson was an active F1 driver from 2014 when he debuted with Caterham. In 2018, Ericsson drover for Sauber alongside Charles Leclerc. Shortly after, Ericsson left the team and moved to IndyCar, where he has been more successful. He even managed to win the Indy500 with Chip Ganassi Racing.
