Will we see Perez in Formula E? 'It will soon be the number one motorsport'
- Cas van de Kleut
After the conclusion of the Formula 1 season, it was revealed that Sergio Pérez would no longer partner with Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing. The Mexican driver will be replaced by Liam Lawson for the upcoming season. According to Antonio Pérez, Sergio’s father, the former Red Bull driver has no immediate plans to leave Formula 1. However, Antonio admitted they are already exploring alternative options for his son’s future, including Formula E.
'Checo' struggled in 2024, scoring just 152 points compared to Max Verstappen's 437. Due to this, Red Bull and Perez agreed to part ways before the conclusion of his contract, which he extended during the 2024 season.
Will Perez join Formula E?
Perez Sr. still indicated that he has not yet left Formula 1 fully. Speaking to Estadio Deportes during Formula E's Mexico E-Prix last weekend, he said: "I did not expect Formula E, careful because it could be that we see Checo Perez racing here. Of course, that would not be a problem."
He continued, explaining that he came to watch to analyse possibilities: "Formula E has been around for 11 years now. It is still quite new. Today it is the number two [racing class] in the world and within five years it will be the number one. That's why I'm here, to see what's next."
His son, while at the 2025 Leon State Fair, said that he did not expect to say goodbye to Red Bull Racing, and added that he will use the next six months to make a decision on the continuation of his career.
