Max Verstappen has been linked with a mega deal to make a huge move to Aston Martin. The British team is said to have £1 billion, or 1.19 billion euros, to spare for the Dutchman's services. However, Jacques Villeneuve does not think the four-time world champion should embark on a journey with Aston Martin, he told Action Network.

Verstappen to Aston Martin?

The Daily Mail came up with an extraordinary rumour on Thursday, with Aston Martin said to have told potential sponsors that Max Verstappen would move to the British team from Red Bull Racing. The deal would come to a collective £1 billion, earning a whopping £200 million a year. This would be by far the biggest deal ever in Formula 1.

Whether the rumour is actually true remains to be seen. After enquiring on behalf of GPblog with the team surrounding Verstappen, it became clear that the news was neither confirmed nor denied. The only response to the question was: 'That's nice'.

Villeneuve recommends Ferrari or Mercedes

Villeneuve was asked earlier this week about who Lawrence Stroll should appoint at Aston Martin once Fernando Alonso leaves the team. The question also mentioned Verstappen's name. The 1997 world champion replied: "Lawrence Stroll would need someone that's very strong mentally and hard-headed to replace Fernando Alonso. Max Verstappen would be more like, what's my next step? You win with Ferrari, you win with Mercedes, not with Aston Martin. Like Lewis Hamilton, he wants to win."

Earlier, Mercedes were also mentioned as a possible future team for Verstappen. The Dutchman even confirmed that talks had taken place between him and team boss Toto Wolff. However, the Austrian later said that there was never a real plan ready to take over the four-time world champion from Red Bull Racing. Mercedes eventually opted for the arrival of Andrea Kimi Antonelli, while Verstappen remained loyal to his team.
