Montoya's 2025 claim: 'Verstappen won't be a problem for Hamilton'
Juan Pablo Montoya has questioned whether Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing will continue their success in the 2025 season. While the team started strong in 2024, it became apparent that Ferrari and McLaren had caught up by the sixth race in terms of on-track performance. The Colombian also shared his thoughts on Lewis Hamilton's chances of winning another title, explaining why he doesn’t see Verstappen as a significant challenge to Hamilton's pursuit of an eighth championship.
In 2024, despite the challenges Red Bull faced, Max Verstappen still managed to secure his fourth consecutive world championship. Now, with Lewis Hamilton making the switch to Ferrari, the question arises whether the British driver can still clinch his eighth Formula One title. Montoya, however, doesn’t view Verstappen as a major threat. He believes Red Bull’s performance will dip this year, explaining why he expects the team to struggle more than in previous seasons.
Montoya on Red Bull and Max Verstappen
“Max Verstappen is not going to be Lewis’s problem this year. I’d be surprised if Red Bull comes out swinging like the last few years. Adrian Newey (Who has moved to Aston Martin after a long Red Bull tenure) came out the other day saying that the problems at Red Bull are not as simple as they think it is," Montoya told OnlineCassino.com.
“If you’re saying you’re building the car wrong and you realize what you’re doing is wrong, then how convinced are you that what you’re doing now is completely right? At some point, they have just got to go, ‘This is what we believe in and this is where we’re going to put an effort in and this is what we’re going to do and this is what’s going to happen.’
“You just start moving sideways or even backwards. If you keep going forward based on the wrong basics, you’re never going to get out of the hole. And that hole can be very deep, that’s the problem." Montoya concluded to the betting website.
