Red Bull tries to turn Lawson's weekend around: Pit lane start
Liam Lawson's Chinese Grand Prix weekend has been one to forget. In just his second race of his full-season debut in Formula 1, it has been another tricky weekend after struggling at the Australian Grand Prix last weekend. Now, for Sunday's Grand Prix,Red Bull has made setup changes to his RB21, breaking Parc Fermé rules, and will thus star the race from the pitlane.
Setup change sends Lawson to the pit lane
After crashing out of the opening race of the 2025 season in Melbourne, Lawson would have been hoping to turn his fortunes around in Shanghai and show why he was given the second seat at Red Bull Racing alongside Max Verstappen.
However, the 23-year-old has continued to struggle at the Austrian team, coming P20 and last in sprint qualifying for Saturday's sprint race, and then doing the same again in qualifying for Sunday's Grand Prix while his Dutch teammate set the second and fourth fastest times respectively in both sessions.
With Lawson starting in P20 already, Red Bull opted to effect changes to the RB21's setup, namely the suspension, breaching the rules of Parc Fermé, which will be of little consequence as the Zealander was already due to start the race from last place.
